Welcome to Gossen Cooks!

The story of the Gossen Cooks website begins over 60 years ago, in August 1948. That
is when the Gossen family arrived in Canada: Omi, her brother Rudi, and her daughters
Anni, Elfi, Herta and Gretchen (Margaret). They brought with them traditional
Mennonite and Ukrainian recipes, but of course these recipes were not written down.

Fast forward 45 years to September 1993. The Gossen Family’s Recipe Book was put
together for the occasion of Christine (Toews) Tiessen’s wedding shower. Rita (Klassen)
Weigel worked countless hours to transcribe handwritten recipes provided by aunts,
cousins, nieces and nephews into the recipe book which we all have been enjoying for
years. The book contains a wonderful mix of traditional Mennonite and Ukrainian recipe
and many new favourites.

And now, 18 years later, the next generation has taken us into the cyber-recipe world.
Gossen Cooks is available on the World Wide Web thanks to Corey Slavnik. Corey
recruited several relatives to enter the recipes from The Gossen Family’s Recipe Book
into the website, making all our favourite recipes available on-line.

But the best thing of all is that each Gossen Cook can now enter their new favourite
recipes to share with the family.

Note that at this time only Gossen family may view and edit recipes. If you are family, feel free to create an account which will be validated.
